Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
“The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.” (CCC 1324)
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are lay men and women who assist the priest in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during the Holy Mass. They are called “extraordinary” because the “ordinary” ministers of the Eucharist are bishops, priests, and deacons. EMHCs serve out of love for the Eucharist and a desire to bring Christ to others in the community.
The Extra Ordinary Ministers dedicate their services through distribution of Holy Communion during the Mass to aid the Clergy when the number of devotees is more. They render their services especially during celebrations like Feasts and Jubilee in the Church. Through their sacrifices and services they tend to inspire many.
Their Selection is done by the Parish Priest as per norms and is subject to the approval of the Bishop of Udupi Diocese . Their post is renewable after every 3 years till the age of 65 Yrs.
