Nationwide movement of Catholic laity
Catholic Sabha, Manipal
The Catholic Sabha is a vibrant association of Catholics within the Diocese of Udupi, functioning with the permission and guidance of the Bishop of Udupi. Officially registered under No. 163/2014-15, the Sabha received its affiliation to the All India Catholic Union (AICU) in 1997, thereby becoming part of a nationwide movement of Catholic laity.
The roots of the Catholic Sabha lie in the Second Vatican Council, which emphasized the indispensable role of the laity in the mission of the Church. The Council called the faithful to actively participate in the priestly, prophetic, and kingly mission of Christ. Recognizing this call, the Catholic Sabha was formed to encourage lay leadership, strengthen Christian values in society, and enable Catholics to take an active part in apostolic, social, and even political life for the common good.
The Catholic Sabha empowers members to contribute positively to political and social administration, promoting justice, equality, and harmony. Through its initiatives, it equips Catholics to take leadership in addressing the challenges of the times, both within the Church and in the wider society.
