About Christ Church
We Exist to Connect People to Jesus and Each Other
Nestled in the heart of Manipal since 1967, Christ Church has been a spiritual home and beacon of faith for generations. The Catholic community in Manipal officially began on 12 July 1959, when Fr. Sylvester D’Souza recognized the need for English-language services for students and local residents and facilitated the first Eucharistic service in the Kannada Primary School with the permission of Dr. T.M.A. Pai.
Overcoming initial challenges to secure land, Fr. Sylvester obtained a two-acre plot from the Government of Karnataka. The foundation stone was laid on Palm Sunday, 22 March 1964, and through the generosity of Bharath Construction (via Sripapthy Acharya), the church was completed without advance payments.
Since then, Christ Church has nurtured both spiritual and community growth—expanding facilities, paving the way for a school, youth center, counseling services, and ongoing restoration works such as the recent roof tiling in 2024.
